Scaffold Erection: Intermediate combines many different practical and visual skills with knowledge of specialized materials and techniques. Scaffolding is often a necessary part of building and home maintenance. Set up scaffolding properly to make sure you and anyone else using the equipment stay safe. This book will introduce the knowledge and skills for those studying and/or working in construction industry.
About the Book
The information in this book consists of competencies that individuals must achieve to enable them to erect and dismantle scaffolding and safely handle scaffolding tools and equipment.
About the Structural Erection Industry
Scaffolding must be erected, altered, moved, and dismantled in accordance with applicable OSHA standards and under the supervision of a scaffold competent person. Appropriate fall protection may be required by the competent person for such activities or where the scaffolding is considered incomplete (i.e. missing parts due to area obstructions). Scaffold components cannot be mixed if they are from different manufacturers unless they fit together without force. Scaffold components of dissimilar metals should not be used together, unless the competent person has determined that galvanic action will not reduce the strength of any component. An oversight in erecting scaffolding could lead to a serious accident. Setting up scaffolding is an alternative to using ladders. A benefit of using scaffolding is the larger work area and mobility it offers over that of a ladder. It provides a platform for walking and for setting all your tools. Thoroughly examine the scaffolding setup to make sure all pieces are secure. Reinspect the scaffold system every time you leave the site and return to it to make sure it is still safe. This cuts work time drastically. Job role and responsibilities of a Structural Erection Engineer may include:
• Accountability for safety, quality and productivity
• Management of day to day site operations
• Management of a team of erectors
• Planning and scheduling steel erection on a daily/weekly basis
• Coordination with Client representative
• Coordination with factory on site deliveries
• Reporting on erection output on regular basis
