Rice Machinery Operations: Intermediate combines many different practical and visual skills with knowledge of specialized materials and techniques. The objective of a rice milling system is to remove the husk and the bran layers from paddy rice to produce whole white rice kernels that are sufficiently milled, free of impurities and contain a minimum number of broken kernels. This book will introduce the knowledge and skills for those studying and/or working in agriculture industry.

About this Book

The information in this book covers basic to core competencies that a person must achieve in the operation and basic routine maintenance of rice machinery for land preparation, crop establishment, crop care, harvesting and threshing, drying and milling.

About the Rice Miling Industry

Rice Mills Machinery fleet encompasses rice mill plant, rice milling machine, rice mill equipment’s, rice mill machine, rice color sorter machines, rice cleaner, rice huller, paddy sieve, rice mill blower, husk aspirator, length grader, rotary separator and many more. Offered machinery is quite adjustable so as to produce white and brown rice. The husk layer is removed from the paddy by friction and the process is called either de-husking or de-hulling. De-husking was traditionally done using mortar and pestles but, in modern rice mills, it is done by passing the paddy grains between two abrasive surfaces that are moving at different speeds. After separating the husk and paddy, the husk is removed by suction (aspirated) and then transported to a storage dump outside the milling plant. The percentage of paddy that is de-hulled to produce brown rice during this process is called the hulling efficiency. An efficient husker will remove 90% of the husk in a single pass. After the husk has been removed the brown rice goes to a paddy separator. A job as a Rice Drier Operator falls under the broader career category of Food and Tobacco Roasting, Baking, and Drying Machine Operators and Tenders.
