A database management system is a collection of programs that enables you to store, modify, and extract information from a database. There are many di erent types of database management systems, ranging from small systems that run on personal computers to huge systems that run on mainframes. A database management system receives instruction from a
database administrator and accordingly instructs the system to make the necessary changes. It manages incoming data, organizes it, and provides ways for the data to be modi ed or extracted by users or other programs. Most database software comes with an open database connectivity driver that allows the database to integrate with other databases.
